UN China Summer Language Programme: (DM) This programme was started in 2003, at the instigation of Dr. Ho, Chinese Language Supervisor of the UN Chinese Language Programme at the UN in New York, as a way for students to complement their studies that is done in the regular class and immerse themselves in Chinese Language. The UN Summer Language Programme is a 3-week immersion programme for students of the UN Chinese Language Programme. In partnership with Nanjing University, students spend 3 weeks during the summer in intensive classes, improving their Chinese language skill. The classes are enhanced with cultural tours that are all organised by Dr. Ho. In 2013, it celebrated its 10th Anniversary and has become a Best Practice in Language Education and Immersion. It has become the ideal opportunity for students who want to learn and improve their Chinese language skills, explore China, and experience Chinese culture firsthand ¡ªan experience and knowledge that is possible only 'sur place'. Over 500 students have participated in the UN China Language Programme since it started in 2003. This has led to improved Chinese proficiency in the United Nations and increased interest in language study of this official UN languages. Dr. Ho also kept the fees to a minimum so that everyone, from Ambassadors to Directors and from P to G-staff can participate.
